Job Summary
We are seeking a
Safety Specialist
to support and strengthen the safety, health, and environmental performance of our manufacturing and warehouse operations. This hands-on role focuses on ensuring regulatory compliance, identifying risks, and promoting a safe, people-first workplace culture.
The Safety Specialist will help ensure full adherence to OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations, while also assisting in the implementation of forward-thinking practices that enhance employee well-being and operational safety.
Working closely with cross-functional teams, including production, maintenance, HR, and leadership, the Safety Specialist will help embed safety into daily processes. By leveraging safety technologies and behavioral safety principles, this role ensures that safety is more than a checklist, it’s a shared value across the organization. Key Responsibilities
Essential Job Duties
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and all applicable safety and environmental regulations. Conduct regular risk assessments, safety audits, and inspections; track corrective and preventive actions and maintain documentation. Deliver and support engaging safety training programs, using digital tools such as EHS software or VR simulations. Monitor safety KPIs and use safety data to identify trends, drive improvements, and report progress. Support behavioral safety programs and help reinforce a culture of personal accountability and care. Collaborate with HR on wellness, mental health, and psychological safety efforts. Assist in environmental initiatives such as waste management and sustainability reporting. Work with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams to ensure safety is embedded in processes and projects. Maintain and update safety records, policies, and standard operating procedures. Support incident investigations and contribute to root cause analysis and corrective action plans. Participate in and help facilitate the Safety Committee and other cross-functional safety initiatives. Communicate safety-related concerns and updates to leadership, including the COO and HR leadership. Stay current with EHS best practices and regulatory changes to ensure continuous compliance and improvement.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
Scope of Responsibility
Supports safety performance across manufacturing and warehouse teams (~130 employees). Works with multiple departments and functions to ensure safe operations. Engages with contractors and vendors on safety-related topics when necessary. Prepares for and supports external safety inspections and audits. Aligns site-level efforts with company-wide ESG and safety goals. Handles confidential safety and compliance-related documentation with discretion. Contributes to procedural improvements and helps implement new safety methods and tools. Knowledge and Skill Requirements
Strong understanding of OSHA, EPA, and general EHS compliance requirements. Familiarity with safety technologies (EHS software, IoT devices, wearables, etc.). Knowledge of human factors and behavioral safety principles is a plus. Good analytical and reporting skills with the ability to interpret safety data and trends. Clear, effective communication and the ability to train and engage a diverse workforce. Organized and detail-oriented with strong follow-through on tasks and corrective actions. Able to work independently while being a collaborative team player. Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Occupational Health, or a related field (preferred).
3–7 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting. OSHA 30-hour certification highly desired. Additional safety certifications (CSP, CHMM, etc.) are a plus but not required. Experience with safety training, audits, inspections, and/or environmental programs preferred. Working knowledge of ESG principles is beneficial. Physical Demands
The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear, climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. Work Environment
Work is performed in a comfortable office environment, and disruptions occur frequently. The noise level in the warehouse/work environment is usually moderate. Travel Required
The employee may be required to travel up to 10% of the time.
