We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to support our USDA food manufacturing facility in Romeoville, IL. The ideal candidate will be responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and maintaining food processing and packaging machinery, as well as mechanical and utility systems. This is a hands-on role requiring strong electrical, mechanical, and automation troubleshooting skills in a fast-paced production environment. Must have strong Troubleshoot and perform minor programming on PLCs and VFDs.

Key Responsibilities

Perform troubleshooting and repairs on packaging and food processing equipment (e.g., stackers, baggers, check-weighers, barcode printers, conveyors). Conduct routine and preventive maintenance on equipment per established schedules. Test, diagnose, and repair electrical systems (110V, 230V, 460V) including motors, starters, relays, panels, wiring, and VFDs. Read and interpret electrical control schematics. Troubleshoot and perform minor programming on PLCs and VFDs. Adhere to all safety procedures including lockout/tagout, ladder safety, etc. Ensure production equipment is operational and ready before shift startup. Fabricate parts and make equipment modifications as needed. Maintain facility in compliance with building codes and fire safety regulations. Provide support in training maintenance and production team members. Uphold and follow SQF Food Safety Code for Manufacturing standards. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent. Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems within a USDA or FDA-regulated manufacturing environment. Ability to work all shifts as needed. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience with hand and power tools. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
