Position Summary

NCUS is seeking a dynamic

Communications and Public Relations Director

to lead the organization’s communications, branding, and public relations strategy. This individual will develop and execute integrated communications campaigns that elevate NCUS’s visibility, strengthen its reputation, and support organizational growth. The Director will oversee press and media relations, digital and social media strategy, branding and collateral management, and storytelling that highlights the impact of NCUS programs.

The role requires creativity, strategic thinking, and strong leadership to align communication efforts with organizational priorities while collaborating with internal teams, partners, and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Public Relations

Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies that promote NCUS’s mission and programs. Write, edit, and distribute press releases, articles, newsletters, and reports to highlight organizational impact. Manage media relations, cultivate relationships with journalists, influencers, and community partners, and serve as spokesperson when needed. Design and execute public relations campaigns that enhance brand reputation. Analyze communication effectiveness and provide data-driven recommendations for continuous improvement.

Digital Strategy & Social Media

Lead the development and execution of a multichannel digital strategy, including social media, SEO/optimization, digital advertising, and website management. Oversee content planning, production, publishing, and community management across platforms (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, Google Ads, etc.). Collaborate with videographers, photographers, and writers to create engaging, mission-aligned content. Track analytics, identify trends, and prepare reports to inform decision-making and enhance engagement.

Brand & Collateral Management

Ensure consistent branding across all organizational materials, both print and digital. Coordinate the production of brochures, flyers, posters, presentations, newsletters, and other communication assets. Monitor trends and adjust strategies to keep communications innovative and effective. Maintain brand guidelines and oversee proper use of logos, visuals, and messaging.

Collaboration & Leadership

Partner with internal teams to support program initiatives and special events. Present communication strategies and performance insights to leadership and stakeholders. Represent NCUS at events, building relationships with key partners, community leaders, and dignitaries. Support organizational priorities through proactive, innovative, and timely communication efforts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field (graduate degree preferred). Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization. Demonstrated experience designing and managing integrated communication campaigns with measurable success. Proven ability to write compelling content across multiple formats (press releases, speeches, social posts, reports, etc.). Strong understanding of digital marketing, social media strategy, and analytics. Proficiency with tools such as Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Teams, and Canva; familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite preferred. Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills. Strong project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Commitment to collaboration, diversity, and advancing the mission of NCUS.
