OverviewA mid-level DevOps Engineer serves as a crucial link between software development and IT operations teams, ensuring efficient, reliable, and automated deployment pipelines. This role is central to fostering a culture of collaboration, continuous integration, and rapid delivery within technology-driven organizations. The mid-level engineer is expected to build on foundational DevOps knowledge, independently manage assignments, and contribute to the evolution of infrastructure and workflows.Key ResponsibilitiesContinuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CICD) Design, maintain, and improve CICD pipelines using tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, CircleCI, or similar platforms. Ensure code is built, tested, and deployed efficiently and reliably across environments.Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Implement and manage cloud or on-premises infrastructure using IaC tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible, promoting repeatability, scalability, and version control of environments.Cloud Platform Management Deploy, configure, and monitor resources in one or more major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform). Optimize for cost, performance, and security.Monitoring and Incident Response Set up and manage monitoring solutions like Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, or equivalent. Respond to alerts, troubleshoot issues across the stack, and perform root cause analyses to prevent recurrence.Automation Write scripts and develop tooling (Python, Bash, PowerShell, Go, or others) to automate repetitive tasks, deployments, and system management processes.Collaboration and Support Work closely with developers, QA, and system administrators to support application delivery, resolve infrastructure issues, and improve development workflows.Configuration Management Use tools such as Chef, Puppet, Ansible, or SaltStack to manage system configurations, enforce compliance, and streamline environment provisioning.Security and Compliance Embed security best practices within pipelines and infrastructure, implement vulnerability scanning, and assist with audits and compliance requirements.Documentation Maintain clear and thorough documentation of systems, procedures, and configurations to ensure knowledge sharing and maintainability.System Upgrades and Maintenance Perform routine maintenance, patching, and upgrades for infrastructure components, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.Required QualificationsBachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.3-5 years of hands-on experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or similar roles.Proficiency with at least one scripting or programming language (e.g., Python, Bash, Go, PowerShell).Experience with modern CICD workflow tools and practices.Hands-on experience with major cloud providers (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their core services (compute, storage, networking, IAM).Working knowledge of containers and orchestration systems (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, ECS).Familiarity with infrastructure as code tools (Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible, etc.).Experience setting up and using monitoring and logging tools (such as Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, ELK stack).Understanding of network fundamentals, security principles, and best practices in DevOps environments.Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex, distributed systems.Preferred QualificationsRelevant certifications (e.g., AWS Certified DevOps Engineer, Certified Kubernetes Administrator).Experience supporting high-availability, mission-critical production systems.Knowledge of advanced networking concepts and security frameworks.Exposure to serverless architectures and event-driven computing.Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working in Scrum or Kanban teams.Background in both Linux and Windows server administration.Core CompetenciesCollaboration Comfortable working in cross-functional teams, communicating with stakeholders of varying technical backgrounds.Automation Mindset Constantly seeking opportunities to automate processes and reduce manual intervention.Adaptability Ready to learn new technologies and stay current with industry trends.Attention to Detail Ensures configurations and deployments are accurate and secure.Accountability Takes ownership of projects and is proactive in preventing and resolving issues.Analytical Thinking Uses data-driven approaches and structured reasoning to solve problems efficiently.
