We are looking for someone to help us accelerate our payroll mission via intelligent use and integration of conversational and agentic AI into the products that serve small and medium business owners and their teams. This person should be familiar with AI technologies and have experience applying them to enhance existing product experiences. About The Team
Payroll is the core of Gusto’s business. Payroll Services teams handle product, operations, and service components for onboarding customers, processing payrolls, calculating taxes & deductions, paying and filing with tax agencies, and maintaining compliance. The domain is complex and offers opportunities to simplify systems for both internal and external customers. Day-to-day Responsibilities
Deeply understand the customer journey—both on and off the Gusto platform—and identify high-impact opportunities to simplify, automate, and delight through AI. Design and build multi-agent AI systems that collaborate effectively to automate key customer workflows and jobs to be done. Partner with engineers, product managers, designers, and cross-functional teams to bring innovative AI-powered experiences to life quickly. Continuously iterate on AI-driven features to improve customer outcomes and drive measurable business impact. Support Payroll and Tax teams in applying AI to create more intuitive, efficient, and delightful experiences for users. Qualifications
12+ years of software development experience Expertise in Agentic AI, Machine Learning, and LLMs, with practical application in products Product-minded with strong problem-solving skills, able to bridge engineering and product management roles Aptitude for simplifying complex and ambiguous problems Effective communication of technical concepts and tradeoffs Experience in regulated domains is a plus Experience in Payroll, Taxes, or Compliance domains is a plus Note:
Travel to Gusto’s Denver office for onboarding is required. Final compensation ranges from $191,000 to $237,000 in Denver & most remote locations, and $225,000 to $279,000 in SF, Seattle, & NYC, with additional stock equity.
