Position Summary
We are seeking a mission-driven ETL Developer with strong proficiency in Informatica, Oracle, SQL Server, Unix shell scripting, and essential database skills to support the data needs of a Public Transit Authority. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in integrating and managing data across transit scheduling platforms, ridership and automated vehicle location (AVL) systems, fare collection systems, and dashboards. Your work will directly influence operational efficiency, real-time decision making, service planning, and federal/state regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Transit-Focused ETL Development
Design and implement scalable ETL processes using Informatica PowerCenter to integrate data from:
Oracle-based scheduling systems (e.g., Rider Validation System (RVS), Trapeze, Enterprise Asset Management (EAM), Hastus, Workday).
SQL Server-based fare collection and CRM systems.
Real-time feeds from AVL, APC (Automated Passenger Counting), and GTFS.
Data Transformation & Integration
Translate operational and planning requirements into robust data pipelines for use in:
Ridership analysis, schedule adherence, and on-time performance reporting.
Federal Transit Administration (FTA) reports (e.g., NTD data submissions).
Multimodal service integration (e.g., bus, rail, paratransit, microtransit).
Data Quality, Performance, & Production Support
Ensure data integrity through validation, error handling, and quality control measures.
Optimize ETL performance to support daily service planning and real-time alerting (e.g., delays, detours, overloads).
Automation & Scheduling
Automate recurring jobs aligned with service schedules, maintenance windows, and operational SLAs.
Monitor and troubleshoot workflows to minimize disruption to critical services.
Required Qualifications
Technical Skills
10+ years of ETL development experience using Informatica PowerCenter.
Advanced proficiency in SQL, PL/SQL (Oracle), and T-SQL (SQL Server).
Experience in Unix shell scripting, preferred to have python programming experience.
Strong background in database concepts, including data modeling, indexing, normalization/denormalization, and performance tuning.
Expertise writing advanced SQLincluding joins, subqueries, window functions, and CTEsfor efficient transformation and retrieval.
Proven ability to manage and document complex ETL jobs, ideally involving:
Transit data feeds (e.g., GTFS/GTFS-realtime)
Real-time monitoring systems
Data warehousing platforms
Database Management & Performance
Design and maintain stored procedures, functions, and triggers in Oracle and SQL Server.
Skilled in query optimization, indexing strategies, partitions, and bulk load operations to support high-volume ETL loads.
Experience with database performance monitoring, backup/recovery, and troubleshooting ETL-related issues.
Strong background in Data warehousing concepts such as dimensional modelling and Kimball architecture.
Domain Experience
Strong understanding of public transportation systems, scheduling software, and service planning cycles.
Familiarity with performance metrics like on-time performance, headway adherence, mean distance between failures, and passenger load factors.
Ideal Candidate Attributes
Education & Certification
Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Transportation Systems, or related field.
Informatica Developer certification and/or Oracle certifications preferred.
Soft Skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate with service planners, operations staff, and public information officers.
Highly organized, analytical, and committed to public service impact through data transparency and efficiency.
Preferred Experience
Knowledge of transit planning tools (e.g., Remix, Swiftly, OrdCAD).
IDMC and cloud databases such as Azure or Snowflake.
Preferred to have Informatica 10.x and IDMC Administration experience.
Data Catalog or MDM experience.
Familiarity with cloud integration platforms, data lakes, or real-time analytics tools.
Experience with ArcGIS or GIS-integrated transit analysis.
