- Position Summary
- Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU) Child Life Specialist
- Four, 10.5 hour days. Every 6 weeks, a full weekend rotation required
- Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients in our ACCU
- Serving as member of multidisciplinary team
- Joining an eight person team of child life specialists who support patients throughout the Benderson Family Heart Center
- Providing support to patients and families from birth to young adults in the cardiac population. With a higher number of infant and toddlers, this population includes neonates, post-operative patients, and transplant patients
- Key Responsibilities:
- Common interventions include support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement
- Providing coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations
- Communicating with cardiac donors and coordinating donations
- Maintaining resources which include ordering and stocking unit areas
- Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.
- Minimum Qualifications Education :
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
- 600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
- General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced based knowledge.
- Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
- Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
