Position Summary
Acute Cardiac Care Unit (ACCU) Child Life Specialist
Four, 10.5 hour days. Every 6 weeks, a full weekend rotation required
Participating in therapeutic activities and programs to meet patients' psychosocial and developmental needs, and facilitating adjustment to health care experiences for patients in our ACCU
Serving as member of multidisciplinary team
Joining an eight person team of child life specialists who support patients throughout the Benderson Family Heart Center
Providing support to patients and families from birth to young adults in the cardiac population. With a higher number of infant and toddlers, this population includes neonates, post-operative patients, and transplant patients
Key Responsibilities:
Common interventions include support for procedures, siblings, development, and bereavement
Providing coping support for patients with both short and long-term hospitalizations
Communicating with cardiac donors and coordinating donations
Maintaining resources which include ordering and stocking unit areas
Delegating work assignments to volunteers and participates in clinical training of student interns.
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
General skills to resolve problems requiring the use of child development theory, professional child life principles, and experienced‑based knowledge.
Well-developed writing skills, and excellent communication skills including conflict resolution to effectively work as a team member.
Child Life Certification required within 1 year of hire
Minimum Qualifications Education:
Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Child Life, or a closely related field with a concentration in child life.
600-hour Child Life internship under the supervision of a certified child life specialist.
