Akkodis is seeking a hands-on and detail-oriented Precision Finishing Technician to join our dynamic engineering team for a contractual opportunity (contract to hire) onsite in Asheville, NC.


Salary Range: $28 per hour - $32 per hour; The rate may be negotiable based on experience, education, geographic location, and other factors.


This role requires exceptional attention to detail, manual dexterity, and the ability to interpret technical documents to achieve extremely tight tolerances and surface finishes. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience with hand tools, grinders, and polishing equipment, along with a commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.


Key Responsibilities

  • Read, understand, and follow process operation sheets, tooling sheets, and technical plans.
  • Hand-contour edges to precise tolerances using various hand tools, grinders, and polishing equipment.
  • Perform delicate finishing operations including polishing surfaces, blending radii, and deburring slots, holes, and other features produced by complex machining processes.
  • Maintain high visual and dimensional quality standards using contour readers and precision measuring devices.
  • Obtain and maintain CVP certification within six months (training provided).
  • Serialize parts accurately to ensure traceability at all times.
  • Maintain work area, materials, and facilities in an orderly condition, following good housekeeping practices.
  • Work in restrictive positions for extended periods, including stooping, bending, and repetitive wrist, arm, and shoulder movements.
  • Safely work in typical machine shop conditions with exposure to dust, dirt, noise, and metal particles while wearing required PPE.
  • Actively participate in daily team meetings, communicate professionally, and contribute to a collaborative work environment.


Basic Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience following detailed instructions and production plans.
  • Minimum 1 year of blueprint reading and basic arithmetic skills (including decimals and fractions).
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, dial indicators, etc.).
  • Demonstrated commitment to workplace safety, quality, and integrity.
  • Willingness and ability to work overtime as required.
  • Hands-on finesse work experience (e.g., auto body work, carpentry, metal polishing, deburring).


Desired Qualifications

  • 1-year machining certificate or 2+ years machining experience (turning, milling, grinding, etc.).
  • Flexibility to work all shifts on a temporary basis for business needs.
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities effectively.
  • Proficiency with computer applications (Outlook, shop floor software, etc.).
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational skills, and willingness to train others.
  • Participation in process improvement activities.
