Primary Duties and Responsibilities
In this role, you will serve as a Patient Financial Analyst for Hematology/Oncology, performing financial registration screening, insurance eligibility and benefit verification, financial counseling of hematology/oncology and specialty patients, and other administrative support as assigned. Major duties include direct contact with healthcare insurers, verifying eligibility and benefits using electronic systems, documenting accurately, responding to inquiries from patients and staff, assisting patients with insurance education, and providing follow-up through telephone and EPIC/Care Connect.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to explain insurance information and document details accurately.
- Ability to perform basic arithmetic and percentage calculations.
- Typing skills for documentation, forms, and correspondence with speed and accuracy.
- Knowledge and ability to work independently with EMR systems, insurance portals, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong customer service skills to ensure effective interactions with patients and staff.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, work as part of a team, and show initiative in problem-solving.
- Skill in setting priorities under deadline pressures and heavy workloads.
- Ability to remain professional and composed in difficult situations.
- Experience in healthcare administration, insurance verification, prior authorizations, and medical billing.
- Understanding of healthcare financial models, major insurance plans, and billing processes.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, office procedures, and billing/diagnosis codes, especially in hematology/oncology and infusion therapy.
- Adaptability to changing workflows and processes.
- Ability to analyze complex patient situations and identify solutions.
- Experience with diverse patient populations, showing sensitivity and empathy.
- Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability in a fast-paced environment.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in outpatient hematology/oncology services and insurance coverage benefits.
Preferred:
- 3+ years working with CareConnect or other EPIC-based EMR software.
- Experience in financial counseling and patient education on insurance benefits.
