Position Summary We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Specialist to join our finance team, with a strong focus on the fundamentals of accounting within a federal contracting environment. This position is responsible for executing day-to-day accounting functions, including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, and government contract billing, while ensuring compliance with applicable federal regulations such as FAR, CAS, and DCAA guidelines.This role requires hands-on experience with Deltek (Costpoint preferred), ADP for payroll accounting, and a firm understanding of how cost principles, indirect rates, and funding structures operate within government-funded contracts.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform timely reconciliations of balance sheet accounts, including accounts payable, receivables, payroll liabilities, and bank accountsMaintain and support the general ledger, ensuring all financial data is accurate, complete, and compliant with federal cost principlesPrepare, review, and submit invoices in alignment with contract terms (e.g., Time and Materials, Cost-Plus-Fixed-Fee, and Firm-Fixed-Price)Support the monthly close process, including preparation of adjusting journal entries, accruals, and revenue recognition under federal guidelinesRecord payroll entries and reconcile payroll liabilities using ADPMonitor and apply indirect cost rates, overhead, and G&A allocations across contracts in accordance with Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)Ensure financial operations are DCAA-compliant and prepare supporting documentation for audits, incurred cost submissions, and rate proposalsMaintain detailed project-level financial records, including labor charges, subcontractor costs, and unbilled receivablesAssist with financial reporting, cash flow monitoring, and variance analysis related to contract performanceCollaborate with program managers, contracts team, and executive leadership to ensure accurate project cost tracking and reportingMinimum QualificationsBachelors degree in Accounting or FinanceMinimum of 3 years of accounting experience, specifically within a federal contracting environmentProficiency with Deltek (Costpoint or similar ERP) and ADP payroll systemsWorking knowledge of FAR, DFARS, and Cost Accounting StandardsDemonstrated experience managing indirect rates, billing cycles, and contract financial complianceStrong understanding of GAAP as applied to government contractorsAbility to prepare audit-ready documentation and respond to DCAA audit requestsAdvanced Excel skills and comfort with project-based reportingStrong attention to detail, critical thinking, and communication skillsPreferred QualificationsExperience supporting small to mid-sized government contractorsFamiliarity with service contract labor standards, unallowable cost tracking, and subcontractor financial oversightPrior involvement in preparing incurred cost submissions and provisional billing ratesExperience with automated timekeeping systems and labor distribution processes
