Prospective candidates should be aware that the responsibilities associated with this role require physical presence at the designated workplace in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. This position has been designated as executive management and is exempted from the civil service rules established by the Civil Service and Human Capital Modernization Act. Minimum Qualifications: Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited college or university; Active Oklahoma Bar Association member in good standing; At least two (2) years of experience in employment law, school law, administrative law, and/or legislation drafting and review. Preferred Qualifications: Prior administrative hearing or courtroom experience. Familiarity with Child Nutrition, Teacher Certification, Special Education, and/or Administrative Rulemaking. Special Requirements: Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without sponsorship now or in the future; Successful completion of a pre-employment background check; Must possess a valid driver's license from a U.S. state or territory to perform necessary job-related travel. Essential Functions: Research & Writing: Ability to conduct in-depth legal research on a wide range of legal issues related to public education in Oklahoma, including analyzing state, federal, and administrative laws, regulations, and policies, as well as reviewing relevant legal opinions, case law, and other legal authorities; prepare well-researched, well written, and comprehensive legal memoranda, opinions, and other documents for review by senior attorneys and stakeholders. Legal Advice & Support: Provide legal advice, both orally and in writing, and support to senior attorneys, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, The State Department of Education and The State Board of Education and other stakeholders on assigned issue portfolios; this includes assisting in the development of legal strategies, preparing legal documents, and providing guidance on legal matters related to public education in Oklahoma; assist in drafting and reviewing contracts, policies, and other legal documents, and provide legal recommendations based on sound research and analysis. Knowledge & Expertise: Demonstrated effective management of litigation involving OSDE and/or the State Board of Education; ability to draft, review, and negotiate contracts; ability to handle confidential work with discretion; knowledge of current trends, best practices, and research in state and federal laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to public education and Oklahoma State government; ability to quickly learn many areas of law; ability to make effective presentations on controversial or complex topics. Physical Demands and Work Environment: Location: Oliver Hodge Building, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Work Environment includes: Office Setting: Climate-controlled office setting with exposure to moderate noise; the employee is frequently required to talk, walk, and stand; this position requires long periods of sitting and daily use of computer and phone. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time.

Physical Demands include: Ability to stand, reach, and bend 50% of the time;

Operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine/printer, and office telephone 75% of the time;

Ascends/descends stairs 25% of the time;

Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
