Visitor Services Specialist
An exceptional job opportunity for a Visitor Service Specialist at the Virginia Museum of Natural History (VMNH) is now available. This is a part-time hourly position (weekend only).
Saturdays from 9:30 a.m. - 4 p.m.
Sundays (from Memorial Day through Labor Day only) from 11:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Special Event Days As Visitor Services Specialist, the successful candidate will work inside the Museum Box Office and Museum Store selling admissions, memberships, and merchandise. Additionally, the successful candidate will disseminate information to visitors and provide appropriate directions to both visitors and guests. The successful candidate will also:
Proactively stay informed of museum events and exhibits
Answer the main museum phone line and direct calls appropriately
Open the Museum Box Office and Museum Store, and close out at the end of the day (balancing and filling out all revenue sheets and necessary paperwork, ensuring the gift shop is clean and tidy for the next day)
Work museum festivals and other events, as needed, based on availability and number of hours worked
Assist museum technicians, as needed
Maintain a positive and upbeat attitude at all times
Keep clear communication with supervisor, including proper notification of absence or lateness
Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor Minimum Qualifications Understanding of state accounting principles
Excellent office equipment skills, including strong proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Excellent customer service skills
Commitment to maintaining a clean and tidy appearance, including proper dress and hygiene
