Job Description
AXIS is seeking a
Senior Claims Specialist – Environmental Claims
to join our North America Claims team. The candidate should possess the ability to handle primary & excess claims arising from policies issued to AXIS Environmental insureds. This role will be responsible for: Managing claims including investigation, analysis, and evaluation of coverage liability within best practices for environmental claims such as cleanups, toxic torts, property damage, and bodily injury. Reviewing claims to determine the nature of loss, coverage, and scope to guide settlement strategies. Developing and maintaining relationships with internal and external partners as the lead contact for assigned claims. Collaborating with the Specialty Complex Claims team on coverage disputes, litigation, and arbitration matters involving Axis issuing companies. Escalating coverage issues and recommending outside counsel when necessary. Formulating claims and litigation strategies, managing outside counsel. Managing costs related to coverage counsel and litigation, and working with vendor management teams. Communicating extensively with senior executives, brokers, reinsurers, actuaries, underwriters, insureds, and auditors. Supporting underwriting inquiries, reporting claim trends, data analysis, and risk assessments. Maintaining documentation of key statistics and metrics. Leading discussions with Underwriters and Insureds on large losses and trends. Participating in claim audits and reporting. Identifying coverage trends and developing strategies for handling such claims. Performing other duties as assigned. Key Skills & Abilities: 5-10+ years of claims management experience in Casualty and/or Specialty Lines Claims, with: Leadership, organizational, and management skills or legal practice experience. Ability to influence and collaborate across organizational levels and resolve complex claims. Strong analytical skills to drive results in legal and claims processes. Understanding of immediate and portfolio-wide claim issues, customer service, and dispute resolution. Excellent communication skills for dealing with diverse stakeholders. Experience handling casualty claims and presenting to senior management. Deep knowledge of claims, litigation, arbitration, and trial processes, with negotiation skills. Bachelor’s degree required; JD preferred. Technical expertise in complex coverage analysis, evaluation, reserving, negotiation, and settlement. Supervisory experience and familiarity with KPIs, data, and metrics is a plus. Valid licenses as required by state, with capacity to add states as needed.
