Job Summary
Repairs, maintains, and inspects all Pitkin County fleet vehicles and equipment to ensure safe and proper functioning.
Job Responsibilities
Mechanic I and II:
- Performs preventative maintenance and repair on assigned vehicles and equipment; tags out of service issues and informs the Fleet Supervisor.
- Performs Department of Transportation inspections on heavy equipment and emergency equipment to include fire trucks, snowplows, and ambulances.
- Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and repairs heavy and light equipment and vehicles.
- Completes steel welding and fabrication and aluminum welding.
- Maintains repair notes, and data entry into Fleet Management system.
- Participates in snow removal and yard clean-up of shop grounds.
- Works on a variety of tasks as required and assigned by Supervisor.
- Supports the relationship between Pitkin County government and the general public by demonstrating courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with citizens, visitors, and County staff; maintains confidentiality of work-related issues and County information; performs other duties as required or assigned.
- Acts as Fleet Supervisor in absence of the Fleet Supervisor when assigned.
This position follows a sequence:
- Level I:
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
- Up to one year of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and vehicles.
- ASE certifications preferred.
- Must possess a valid Colorado Driver's License and acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
- Level II (In addition to Level I):
- 1 to 3 years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Class B Commercial Colorado Driver's License.
- EPA 609 A/C Certification.
- 3 OEM Certificates of Completion with relevance to Pitkin County Fleet.
- Level III (in addition to Level I):
- 3 plus years of experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment and vehicles.
- Must possess an ASE Master Light or Heavy Truck Mechanic certification.
- 5 OEM Certificates of Completion with relevance to Pitkin County Fleet.
- County policies and procedures.
- State and federal laws and regulations governing work performed.
- Record keeping and records management rules and standards.
- Handling multiple tasks simultaneously, under pressure, and in emergency and stressful situations.
- Interacting with people of different social, economic, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Following and effectively communicating verbal and written instructions.
- Utilizing standard personal computer software programs and specialized state and County software.
- Communicating effectively verbally and in writing
- Work is performed in a mechanical shop with some exposure to inclement weather, potentially dangerous machinery and tools, airborne particles, and fumes.
