Responsibilities

This hospital-based position collaborates with medical, surgical, emergency, and social work services to address complex medical and behavioral health needs at Virginia Mason Medical Center. Responsibilities include managing conditions such as delirium, mood, psychotic, anxiety, substance use, and somatic symptom disorders. The role also involves working with patients under the Involuntary Treatment Act with Single Bed Certification and educating clinical teams about behavioral health care, including residency programs. The position emphasizes teamwork with physicians, advanced practitioners, trainees, nurses, and social workers.

Schedule/Call

• Weekday consults from 8-5.
• No overnight or weekend duties, covered by an external telepsychiatry service.

The Section Head provides strategic leadership for Hospital Psychiatry, partnering with the Department of Medicine and Hospital Care leaders. This role involves overseeing quality care, aligning with strategic goals, and developing the team.

Qualifications

• BE/BC in Psychiatry
• Fellowship training and Board Certification in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry preferred
• Leadership experience in psychiatry
• Ability to obtain medical license in Washington
• DEA registration with full prescriptive authority for practice

Compensation includes a stipend.
