Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval and award amount (up to $200,000) & eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

  • U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited according to VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Residency must be approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs as deemed appropriate by the local Medical Staff Executive Committee.
  • Residents in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, without privileges.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred: Residency in Anesthesiology, Board Certified or Board Eligible.
  • Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019.

Duties

  • Provide anesthetic care aligned with VA standards, including assessment, pre-operative evaluation, and intraoperative management.
  • Monitor and manage patients' homeostasis during perioperative and critical care.
  • Diagnose and treat pain syndromes, and manage respiratory functions and therapies.
  • Supervise and teach medical and paramedical personnel in anesthesia, respiratory, and critical care.
  • Participate in research, quality improvement, and administrative activities.
  • Provide teaching or training for students and residents, and participate in on-call coverage.
  • Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
