Lead Systems Administrator

Responsibilities Include But Are Not Limited To
The Lead Systems Administrator serves as the technical authority and subject matter expert for systems administration, possessing deep knowledge and extensive experience across a broad range of operating systems, server hardware, virtualization technologies, and IT infrastructure management practices Lead the development and implementation of enterprise-wide systems administration strategies, standards, and best practices, ensuring alignment with business objectives, security requirements, and industry standards Provide expert guidance and mentorship to other Systems Administrators and IT staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and continuous learning Design, implement, and manage complex system architectures, including large-scale server deployments, virtualized environments, cloud-based infrastructure, and hybrid IT solutions Conduct advanced performance analysis, capacity planning, and security assessments to optimize system efficiency, reliability, and security posture Lead the evaluation, selection, and implementation of new system technologies and tools, driving innovation and ensuring the IT infrastructure remains current and adaptable to evolving business needs Contribute to the development and delivery of systems administration training programs, knowledge-sharing initiatives, and technical documentation, promoting a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration
Minimum Qualifications
BA/BS in field necessary to assume Systems Administrator Lead duties or 4 additional years of experience in lieu of a degree 12+ years of experience with 7+ years of experience in systems administration, with a proven track record of leading and implementing complex IT infrastructure solutions in large-scale enterprise environments. Deep understanding of server hardware, virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware, Hyper-V), and network infrastructure, including experience with designing, implementing, and managing complex IT environments. Advanced proficiency in scripting and automation tools (e.g., PowerShell, Bash, Python), including experience with developing and implementing automation solutions for systems administration tasks. Extensive knowledge of systems security best practices, vulnerability management, and incident response, including experience with implementing and managing security controls to protect critical systems and data. Experience with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and their associated services, including experience with migrating, deploying, and managing systems in cloud environments. Knowledge of containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and their application in modern IT infrastructure. Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including experience with continuous integration, continuous delivery, and Infrastructure as Code. Experience with monitoring and performance tuning of systems, using monitoring tools and techniques to ensure optimal system performance and resource use. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to effectively communicate technical information and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels. Proven ability to lead and mentor Technical Teams, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous learning. DoD 8570.01-M IAT Level III certification or higher.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with emerging technologies, such as serverless computing, edge computing, and artificial intelligence (AI) for IT operations (AIOps). Experience with developing and delivering systems administration training programs, mentoring Junior Administrators, and fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration. Contributions to industry publications or presentations on systems administration topics, demonstrating thought leadership and a commitment to advancing the field. Active participation in professional systems administration communities and organizations, contributing to the development and dissemination of knowledge in the field. Relevant industry certifications, such as Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE), Red Hat Certified Architect (RHCA), or AWS Certified Solutions Architect?Professional. Experience at a DoD Combatant Command (e.g., SOUTHCOM, NORTHCOM, CENTCOM, CYBERCOM, INDOPACOM, EUCOM, AFRICOM, STRATCOM, TRANSCOM, SOCOM, SPACECOM) or a component is desired.

Must have an active Secret clearance

Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer The person in this position frequently communicates with co-workers, management and customers, which may involve delivering presentations.
