San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (SFGHF) is a dynamic and growing nonprofit fundraising organization dedicated to promoting equity in healthcare for all at the Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG). Zuckerberg San Francisco General is the only provider of trauma (Level 1) and 24-hour psychiatric emergency services for 1.5 million people in San Francisco and northern San Mateo counties.

A comprehensive medical center, Zuckerberg San Francisco General provides quality health care with compassion and respect to 100,000 inpatient and 500,000 outpatient visits per year, including some of San Francisco's most vulnerable. In addition, Zuckerberg San Francisco General is one of the nation's top tertiary academic medical centers conducting clinical training and research. In 2016, Zuckerberg San Francisco General opened a new acute care hospital, and the Foundation concluded a successful multi-million-dollar capital campaign.

POSITION SUMMARY :

The Development Director, Individual and Corporate Giving plays a pivotal role on the San Francisco General Hospital Foundation (Foundation) Development team. This position is responsible for designing, implementing, and leading strategies that expand and steward philanthropic support from major donors in alignment with the Foundation's mission and the priorities of Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG).

THE ROLE :

Fundraising Strategy and Execution (65%)

In partnership with the Chief Development Officer (CDO), develop and execute comprehensive fundraising strategies focused on growing giving at all levels, with emphasis on major ($10,000+) and blended (annual, special initiative, and / or planned) gifts from individuals and corporations.
Using a discovery, cultivation, solicitation and retention model, manage and build a portfolio of current and prospective major donors with capacity for major and principal giving; build strong relationships and maintain active engagement through a minimum of four meaningful interactions with each portfolio constituent each year. Maintain and re-enforce portfolio management strategies and best practices.
Partner with CDO to establish strategies to drive individual and corporate support via effective engagement activities.
Manage the planned giving program, including cultivating and soliciting potential donors to disclose planned charitable gifts and steward known planned gift donors. Collaborate with external professionals as needed.
Collaborate with event and other colleagues to promote sponsorship of the Foundation's annual fundraising event, Hearts in SF, as part of a comprehensive solicitation strategy. Maximize donor involvement in year-round cultivation and stewardship events.
Provide strategic support to Foundation CEO to maximize portfolio performance and engagement.
Build relationships with Foundation Board members and increase their engagement with the Foundation's revenue-generating activities.
Collaborate with Hospital program managers to identify compelling funding opportunities aligned with donor interests.
Contribute to the planning and execution of special initiatives and capital campaigns, ensuring integration with individual and corporate giving strategies.

Management and Cross-Team Collaboration (20%)

Hire and supervise a new Individual and Corporate Gifts Officer.

Supervise Annual Fund Manager

Engage and oversee consultants and contracts as necessary.

Manage, integrate, and align team strategies among the Gifts Officer, annual fund program, and planned giving to develop donor pipelines that build toward major and capital gift opportunities and nurture long-term funder engagement.

Integrate major gift, annual fund, and planned gift fundraising with other organizational activities including events and campaign giving.

Foster a culture of philanthropy across the Foundation team that prioritizes donor-centric relationship building and accountability to fundraising goals.

Partner on strategic cultivation activities, including one-on-one meetings, small group gatherings, and recognition events, involving Foundation and Hospital leadership.

Donor Communications (10%)

Working with CDO and Director of Communications, contribute to an integrated communications and development strategy, plan, and messaging.

Provide strategy and direction for the completion of key cultivation communications including the digital monthly eNews and a quarterly donor impact report.

Direct and help craft case materials and messaging in collaboration with the Communications and Marketing team, including fundraising materials targeted to major individual donors and prospects.

Administrative (5%)

Develop and manage expense and revenue budgets related to specific areas of focus; track performance against goals.

Maintain accurate records of moves management donor interactions, proposals, action items, and gifts using Raiser's Edge and internal tracking systems.

Conduct donor and market research to identify and qualify new prospects.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR :

Minimum of seven years related experience in development or non-profit administration, preferably in a health care, human services, and / or cause-based institution.

Minimum of five years of successful major gift solicitation : Strong and proven track record of cultivating, closing and stewarding gifts and grants of $25,000+. Strong preference for candidates with experience raising six- and seven-figure gifts and sponsorships.

Minimum of three years' experience managing staff in a goal-driven environment; excellent team player in cross-functional teams.

This role is SF Bay area based with the ability to work a hybrid schedule and meet with donors in person.

Working knowledge of or experience with planned giving strategy and principles.

Commitment to discretion and confidentiality.

Competency with MS Office Suite, word processing, database (preferably Raiser's Edge / RE NXT), and spreadsheet functions.

Superior skill developing long-term donor cultivation and solicitation strategies.

Demonstrates the ability to lead strategy to grow and strengthen the donor pipeline by working with internal and external partners to cultivate existing donors to increase and expand their support.

Outstanding interpersonal skills; a high level of comfort with direct donor interaction including discussion of personal and family finances.

Ability to work effectively with C-suite level leadership, Board and committee members and others; experience with staffing volunteer board committees.

Experience planning donor events and activities is preferred.

Problem-solving, project and budget management, presentation, strategy, and organizational skills.

Innovative, creative, strategic, motivated self-starter and analytical thinker.

Articulate with excellent writing ability and public speaking skills.

SALARY RANGE : $140,000-$160,000 depending on experience.
