Part-Time Social Media Assistant
The Part-Time Social Media Specialist plays a key role in managing Campus Recreation's social media presence. Reporting to the student social media specialist lead and the Assistant Director of Campus Recreation, this position is responsible for content creation, engagement, and strategic planning across various platforms. Key Responsibilities Social Media Content Creation & Management
Monitor the Campus Recreation social media calendar to ensure timely and accurate posting of facility updates, events, and programs. Develop engaging digital content, including video editing, graphic design, and creative storytelling, to build engagement among target and broad audiences. Research and implement emerging trends and engagement strategies to enhance social media presence. Maintain a consistent tone and voice across all platforms, adhering to University brand guidelines and evolving best practices. Schedule and post content across platforms, ensuring alignment with department objectives.
Event Coverage & Community Engagement
Attend Campus Recreation events and programs to capture real-time content, including video, photography, and social stories. Actively monitor and engage with social media followers, responding to comments and messages as needed. Serve as a brand ambassador for Penn State Campus Recreation, both online and in-person.
Collaboration & Professionalism
Work closely with the social media team to align messaging and strategies. Communicate regularly with supervisors, maintaining open dialogue on project progress and social media performance. Display professionalism in all interactions, modeling positive rapport with patrons and colleagues. Act as a decisive problem-solver in the absence of professional staff, ensuring smooth operations.
Preferred Experience & Skills Ideal candidates will have experience (academic or non-academic) in social media management, communications, or business operations. Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to interact positively with patrons and employees are highly preferred. Proficiency in Adobe Express and familiarity with content creation tools, social media analytics, and engagement strategies are also beneficial. Work Environment & Requirements Work will take place on the University Park campus. Candidates must successfully complete a background check. This role requires flexibility to accommodate a variable schedule, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and University breaks.
