Group Fitness Instructor
To provide engaging, safe, and effective group fitness instruction to college students of varying fitness levels. The instructor promotes wellness, encourages healthy lifestyle habits, and fosters a supportive and inclusive environment for all participants. Lead and instruct group fitness classes tailored to college students. Design and deliver structured workouts that accommodate diverse skill levels and goals. Promote safety, proper technique, and exercise progression. Foster a motivating and welcoming atmosphere that encourages participation. Maintain equipment and ensure studio or fitness space safety and cleanliness. Lead group exercise classes such as HIIT, strength training, cardio kickboxing, dance fitness, circuit training, yoga-inspired stretch sessions, or other formats based on certifications and expertise. Demonstrate correct exercise form and provide modifications or progressions based on participant needs. Prepare class plans in advance, including warm-ups, main workouts, and cool-downs. Assess and respond to participants' individual needs during class. Monitor participants for signs of injury or fatigue and respond appropriately. Encourage consistent participation and provide positive reinforcement. Ensure a safe exercise environment by maintaining cleanliness and reporting damaged equipment. Maintain attendance records and report class participation trends. Communicate class updates, scheduling changes, or safety information clearly and promptly. Stay current with industry trends and continuing education in group fitness. High school diploma or equivalent (college coursework or degree in kinesiology, exercise science, or a related field preferred). 1+ years of experience leading group fitness classes. Current group fitness certification from a recognized organization (e.g., AFAA, ACE, ACSM, NASM, or similar). Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification. Strong leadership, communication, and motivational skills. Ability to work with diverse populations and adapt workouts as needed. Frequent standing, walking, jumping, squatting, and lifting. Ability to demonstrate full range of motion and perform moderate to high-intensity movements. Must be able to lift 3050 lbs when setting up or moving fitness equipment. Stamina to lead multiple classes per week or per day. Campus fitness center, studio, gymnasium, or outdoor campus recreation spaces. May involve exposure to loud music, group energy, and physical exertion. Flexible scheduling may include evenings and weekends to accommodate student availability. Completion of an accredited group fitness instructor training program. Ongoing continuing education in fitness, group instruction, and injury prevention. Annual CPR/AED and First Aid recertification. Completion of institution-specific safety or onboarding training (if applicable). Training in inclusive and trauma-informed fitness practices is a plus.
