JOB DESCRIPTION: Our team of Large Account Primary Casualty Underwriters are high-level individual contributors responsible for overall management, business development, growth, and profitability of a book of Large Account Casualty business spanning various industry segments and revenue bands (Manufacturing, Distributors, Education, Real Estate, Technology, Wholesale, Retail, Service classes). This position emphasizes new business production of risk management primary casualty accounts, focusing on underwriting performance, exposure-based pricing, and building strong producer and customer relationships. This role can be located in Los Angeles, Irvine, San Diego, Denver, Scottsdale, or Seattle offices. The position requires loss-sensitive experience within the large account casualty space and offers a defined career growth track. Position Summary Our Underwriters leverage technical, sales, and analytical skills to provide insurance solutions that help CNA’s customers manage risk. They understand CNA’s strategies and appetites, using data to make informed risk decisions. Responsibilities include ensuring profitable growth of an assigned book, adhering to underwriting policies, rating rules, and regulations. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Underwriting Expertise Review applications and financial requirements to assess risk acceptability Understand pricing components, rating methodology, and use of predictive modeling tools Utilize underwriting tools and strategies to follow guidelines Analyze coverage and limits for proper structuring of CNA’s coverage Complete underwriting write-ups detailing analysis Demonstrate technical underwriting skills with thorough account reviews Follow guidelines to minimize exposure and ensure proper pricing Stay current on relevant regulations and trends Portfolio Management Manage portfolio to meet premium, profitability, and growth goals Prioritize resources to optimize producer performance Identify cross-sell opportunities and foster growth across lines Communicate CNA’s product and appetite clearly at the point of sale Sales & Distribution Management Maintain rigorous sales practices using CNA systems Develop and nurture producer relationships Implement distributor plans and monitor performance Build trust and facilitate negotiations with customers Identify cross-sell opportunities and collaborate with underwriters All employees should align with CNA’s Winning Behaviors: being externally focused, accountable, collaborative, innovative, and committed to continuous learning.
