This individual is expected to possess the ability to lead projects of varying levels of complexity with little to no supervision. They will have opportunities to develop technical expertise and support internal and external customers. Additionally, they will demonstrate leadership on product development and commercialization teams, supporting manufacturing, marketing, and quality teams.

This position is eligible for bonuses based on performance and is subject to the terms of the companys applicable plans.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • Legally authorized to work in the country without sponsorship now or in the future.
  • Bachelors degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM).
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Minimum 5 years of chemist-level experience, with at least 3 years in water-based technologies.
  • Experience leading or managing projects.
  • Familiarity with polymer structure-property relationships.
  • Proficient in analytical methods for coating characterization and defect analysis.
  • Successful experience in scaling up and commercializing coating or polymer systems.
  • Project management skills.
  • Basic computer skills for data input, communication, and analysis.
  • Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters degree or higher in Chemistry or Coating Science.
  • 8+ years in industrial coatings formulation.
  • 3-5 years of electrocoat or water-based technology experience.
  • Experience with effects coatings, statistical analysis, and color matching.
  • Experience with robotic liquid and powder spray systems.
  • Knowledge of electrocoat or water-based polymer synthesis.

Travel Requirements: 30%

Responsibilities
  • Formulate anodic and cathodic electrocoatings.
  • Characterize coatings and polymer systems.
  • Apply experimental coatings via electrodeposition.
  • Lead development projects using Design for Six Sigma tools (DOE).
  • Support manufacturing during scale-up of new coatings and polymer systems.
  • Coordinate with managers and partners to ensure successful product commercialization.
  • Establish project timelines and resources with minimal supervision.
  • Follow safety guidelines at all times.
  • Mentor less experienced chemists.
  • Become a subject matter expert in solvent-based/water-based technologies, powder coatings, and raw materials.
  • Collaborate across functional areas.
  • Work with project managers on proposals and R&D programs.
  • Lead projects independently.
  • Communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
  • Influence support for ideas and plans.
  • Assist with staffing and team collaboration.
