Job Description
The Accounting Specialist will play a vital role in maintaining accurate financial records and ensuring the integrity of accounting processes. This position requires a solid understanding of accounting principles, construction cost tracking, and strong analytical skills. You will assist with day-to-day accounting activities, daily cash reconciliation, monthly close processes, job costing, and compliance reporting.
Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and post journal entries and general ledger reconciliations
  • Lead the monthly and year-end close process
  • Maintain and reconcile job cost reports and construction project budgets
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions
  • Review subcontractor billings and lien waivers for accuracy and compliance
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements
  • Track fixed assets and depreciation schedules
  • Assist with preparing financial statements and reports
  • Support annual audits and compliance reporting (e.g., W-9s, 1099s, insurance certificates)
  • Maintain documentation for accounting policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with project managers and the operations team to ensure financial accuracy on construction projects
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
  • 2+ years of experience in accounting; construction industry experience preferred
  • Working knowledge of GAAP and job costing
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Sage 300 CRE, QuickBooks, or Viewpoint)
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, etc.)
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
    Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with construction contract types (lump sum, T&M, GMP)
  • Familiarity with AIA billing and construction compliance documents
