As a member of the Management Team, this position is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the partnership in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and participating in establishing long-range financial goals, strategies, plans, and policies. Essential Job Functions
·Plans, develops, organizes, implements, directs, and evaluates the firm’s fiscal function and performance. ·Oversees all accounting processes, including accounts receivable and payables, as well as time and billing, trust functions, general ledger, new client and matter intake processing, and administration of the accounting software. Supervises and mentors staff accountants and records coordinator through regular oversight and one-on-one or group meetings. ·Provides timely and accurate analysis of budgets, financial reports, and financial projections in order to assist the Board Chair, the Board, and other senior executives in performing their responsibilities. Attends Board and Partnership meetings. ·Oversees the Partnership compensation system, including draws, distributions, subjective bonuses, and origination calculations. Participates in the Origination Committee. ·Responsibility for all Partnership tax reporting, including federal, state and local. ·Optimizes the handling of bank and deposit relationships and initiates appropriate strategies to enhance cash position. Oversees cash management and all treasury functions. ·Develops a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism, which includes a minimum cash threshold to meet operating needs. ·Oversees the Capital needs for the firm and administers the pay-ins and payouts of current Partners. ·Administers the calculations and payouts related to Of Counsel compensation and former partner Capital. ·Evaluates the finance division structure and team plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group. Designs, implements, and updates internal controls in order to minimize the risk of fraud or misappropriation of funds. ·Oversees the management of risk, including responsibility for Employment Practices Liability, Business Property and Liability, Crime, Cyber and Fiduciary insurance coverage. Assists the firm’s General Counsel with the firm’s Malpractice Liability insurance application. Participates in the firm’s Practice Committee. ·Coordinates with the Human Resources & Payroll/Benefits Manager on payroll and benefit items that impact the accounting system. ·Administers the Firm’s 401k program, including managing relationships with third party service providers. Determines participant eligibility and oversees contributions and regulatory compliance. Coordinates 401k Plan Committee meetings and action items. ·Participates in the firm’s plans and programs as a strategic partner and as a member of the firm’s management team. Provides strategic financial input to assist with decision making on issues impacting the organization; including, for example, evaluation of potential alliances, acquisitions, and/or mergers and conflicts management.. ·Enhances and/or develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures of the organization by way of systems that will improve the overall operation and effectiveness of the firm. ·Provides technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline. ·Coordinates the annual budget process with the management team through approval by the Board and the Partnership. ·Advises, from the financial perspective, on contracts the firm may enter. ·In coordination with the Human Resources Manager, hires, manages performance and development, disciplines as necessary, and provides recognition and rewards to Accounting and Fileroom staff members. ·Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies, and regulatory action. Qualifications for the Job Education and Experience BA or BS in Accounting or Finance with Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required; 10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles with 7+ years in roles with proven management and supervisory skills preferred. Law Firm experience a plus.
Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements: Access to personal transportation, and a valid Washington State Identification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge:
Trust accounting, payroll, payables, receivables, billings, and/or collections, general ledger, financial reporting, monthly, quarterly, and annual tax reporting. Skills:
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate and manage well at all levels of the firm, including maintaining confidentiality; strong problem-solving and creative skills, and ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses. Proficiency in all Microsoft 365 applications, accounting software with a Time and Billing component, willingness to learn and use additional applications as needed, e.g., various state applications for reporting purposes, bank and tax reporting software or applications. Abilities:
Display positive and helpful attitudes toward staff, co-workers, and supervisors/partners; make management-level decisions and recommendations with a high level of integrity and dependability, with a strong sense of urgency and results-orientation; establish trust and credibility with staff and management.
Working Conditions
Office environment; uses own vehicle to travel between Tacoma and Seattle facilities and within the community; experiences occasional prolonged visual concentration and exposure to video display; occasionally deals with angry or upset individuals.
