Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Mainframe z/OS Systems Programmer to join our team. In this role, you will lead hardware refreshes, system upgrades, and enterprise tooling initiatives while ensuring the stability, performance, and compliance of our mission-critical mainframe environment. The ideal candidate has deep expertise in z/OS systems, SMP/E, z/OSMF workflows, and enterprise tools from Broadcom, IBM, and BMC, combined with strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset. Key Responsibilities:

Manage and optimize z/OS environments, including IPL procedures, JES2/JES3, Sysplex configurations, and SMF data collection. Develop and maintain system-level routines and automation using Assembler, REXX, and JCL. Administer hardware and logical resources across LPARs, including DASD/tape allocation, HMC configuration, and security management with RACF or equivalents. Troubleshoot system issues, perform dump analysis, and resolve performance anomalies using IPCS, SLIP, trace tools, and system logs. Ensure data integrity and recovery readiness using DFSMShsm, FDR/ABR, FlashCopy, and virtual tape replication. Monitor and optimize system performance using RMF/SMF reports, OMEGAMON/BMC MainView dashboards, and WLM tuning. Configure and maintain mainframe networking, including VTAM, SNA, TCP/IP stacks, OSA adapters, and Coupling Facility communication. Produce clear documentation, runbooks, and upgrade plans while collaborating with cross-functional teams. Execute OS and product upgrades with SMP/E, z/OSMF workflows, and Broadcom, IBM, or BMC tooling. Plan and lead hardware refreshes, feature activations, and migrations with minimal downtime, including IPL scheduling and vendor coordination. Mentor junior staff and share knowledge on mainframe best practices, automation, and tooling. Requirements:

15+ years of experience in mainframe z/OS systems programming. Strong expertise in hardware refreshes, system upgrades, SMP/E, z/OSMF, and enterprise tooling from Broadcom, IBM, and BMC. Proficiency in Assembler, REXX, and JCL scripting for automation and system routines. Deep knowledge of z/OS architecture, JES2/JES3, Sysplex management, SMF, and parmlib customization. Hands-on experience with backup/recovery, performance monitoring, and problem-solving in large-scale mainframe environments. Familiarity with RACF or equivalent security administration. Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and project management skills. Strong communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and explain technical issues to non-technical stakeholders. Demonstrated adaptability and continuous learning, keeping current with z/OS updates, hybrid cloud trends, and modern automation tools. Attention to detail, patience, and resilience in managing complex, legacy systems.
