A law firm seeks an experienced and dedicated Associate Attorney to manage a caseload within the Workers' Compensation practice. This full-time, hybrid position is based in Bakersfield, CA, and offers a flexible working arrangement. The attorney will work closely with clients, opposing counsel, judges, claims adjusters, and medical professionals to guide cases from initial retention through resolution. This role involves overseeing the progress of cases, handling litigation, and mentoring case workers.
Duties:
Manage a caseload from retention to final resolution, ensuring all case aspects are thoroughly handled.
Handle discovery and litigation, and attend depositions, hearings, and trials for assigned cases.
Maintain proactive case management, including daily monitoring, triage, and file updates; send settlement demands weekly.
Conduct intakes as needed and process cases within one week of client retention.
Research and analyze case details to identify claims or referral opportunities.
Collaborate with assigned caseworkers, providing guidance and support through weekly meetings and performance feedback.
Maintain the firm’s high professional standards and adhere to the firm's Mission Statement and Core Values.
Ensure punctuality for hearings, depositions, meetings, and appointments.
Supervise assigned caseworkers and provide professional coaching.
Requirements:
Proven understanding of Workers' Compensation procedures and related areas of law.
Ability to manage a large caseload efficiently and effectively.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong negotiation abilities and decision-making skills.
Ability to identify potential claims and spot nuanced legal issues.
Bilingual in Spanish and English is recommended.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Demonstrated success in a fast-paced legal environment.
Strong customer service skills, especially in direct client interactions.
Proficiency in Word, Outlook, PDFs, and case management software.
Education:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Certifications:
Certificate of Specialization in Workers' Compensation preferred.
Previous Workers' Compensation or Social Security Disability experience is highly recommended.
Skills:
Proven ability to manage heavy caseloads with attention to detail.
Strong time management and organizational skills.
Experience in supervising and mentoring junior staff.
Comfortable working directly with clients, colleagues, and medical providers.
Ability to work well in both a team-oriented and independent environment.
Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion, and maintain confidentiality.
