Senior Software Engineer
Senior Software Engineer works in the Department of Information Technology Solutions (ITS). Senior Software Engineer is responsible subject matter expert position responsible for analyzing, designing, developing, troubleshooting, and documenting solutions to support the software development life cycle. Additionally, the Senior Software Engineer will lead and mentor others, and contribute to solution designs. Duties and Responsibilities: Defines, documents and maintains consistent architecture and technical approaches to web-based development projects. This includes the use of full-stack technologies used to deliver the solution, from relational databases to web services to front-end code and HTML. Leads, participates, and performs in code, environment, and design reviews to ensure quality work. Analyzes the impact of change requests on web architecture and projects. Participates in Agile software development practices across teams including task workflow, code repository practices, as well as CI/CD pipeline. Has expertise in several development frameworks such as Cold Fusion, Java, Javascript, JQuery, AJAX, JSON, HTML, CSS, XML, AEM, and MuleSoft. Works with a variety of database systems including MySQL and Oracle, and Azure Cosmos Works with customers as well as internal development, project management, user experience, server engineering, and quality assurance teams to create web interfaces and solutions for UMGC's customers. Documents, diagrams, and approves design solutions. Escalates and responds to emergencies and urgent issues with appropriate urgency and professionalism. Provides on-call support for emergencies and outages. Works closely with other internal UMGC teams to define and maintain the infrastructure necessary to support customers. Performs deployment tasks including code deployment, data migration, and verification testing Serves as a team leader and provides guidance to less experienced staff. Provides support to customer web producers and content authors. Skills: Expert in best practices in coding, architecture, and web development Expert in RESTful web services Expert in writing queries, and stored procedures for SQL Server and/or Oracle Expert in the entire software development lifecycle Knowledge and experience using the following technologies: HTML, CSS, AJAX, Bootstrap, JSON, Java, Javascript, Cold Fusion, relational databases, Web Services, XML, and related technologies. Experience with Source Control systems such as Team Foundation Server Knowledge of Content Management Systems including Adobe and CommonSpot is nice to have Must be detail-oriented and logical Excellent problem solving and analytical skills Strong verbal communication skills Ability to keep up with new business and technical concepts Able to work with minimal supervision Must display a positive attitude Must be able to lead and mentor others Understanding of Agile Frameworks (Kanban/Scrum) Understanding of software development life cycle Education & Experience Requirements: Experience:
