Overview

Yale School of Medicine (YSM) is a leader in biomedical research, clinical care, and medical education. The Associate Director of Development, Clinical and Healthcare Delivery, will join a growing team to enhance fundraising efforts for Cardiology and other departments within the Department of Internal Medicine. This role involves building relationships with faculty, grateful patients, alumni, and friends to secure gifts supporting faculty, programs, and facilities, aligning with Yale’s $7B “For Humanity” Campaign.

The successful candidate will be a creative fundraiser with experience in medical fundraising, capable of developing comprehensive strategies, engaging stakeholders, and fostering relationships to meet short-term and long-term goals.

Essential Duties

  1. Develop and manage a portfolio of prospects and donors, building relationships with university stakeholders.
  2. Evaluate gift opportunities and recommend suitable giving vehicles.
  3. Coordinate with university staff and faculty to promote engagement and solicit gifts.
  4. Create tailored communications for prospects and donors.
  5. Participate in gift solicitations, possibly involving travel.
  6. Perform additional development activities as needed.

Required Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of fundraising practices.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to synthesize research initiatives and develop strategic plans.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Problem-solving, organization, and creativity.

Preferred Education, Experience, and Skills

Minimum of 5 years in development or alumni relations, with a proven track record in major gift fundraising, preferably in healthcare or academic settings.

Principal Responsibilities

  1. Develop fundraising strategies for a prospect portfolio.
  2. Build and maintain relationships with prospective donors and university personnel.
  3. Assess and recommend gift opportunities.
  4. Collaborate with university staff on communication and engagement strategies.
  5. Participate in fundraising solicitations, including travel.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree and 4-6 years of fundraising experience, preferably in higher education, with ability to handle sensitive information confidentially.
