We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Junior Mainframe System Programmer to join our Mainframe Systems Programmers team. In this role, the candidate will work closely with senior system programmers to support and maintain our z/OS mainframe environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in installing, configuring, and maintaining IBM z/OS and related program products.
- Learn from experienced team members about mainframe operations, tools, and best practices.
- Support system maintenance activities, including applying patches and upgrades to system; accompanying storage systems and program products.
- Gain hands-on experience with tools such as OMEGAMON, CICS, and other IBM mainframe utilities.
- Participate, learn, and execute disaster recovery exercises.
- Monitor system performance and availability; help troubleshoot system and application issues.
- Assist in automating and scripting routine tasks using REXX, CLIST, or JCL.
- Document system configurations, maintenance activities, and troubleshooting steps.
- Follow change management and incident response procedures.
- Take an active part in the upgrades of the mainframe and related storage systems.
- The candidate will be required to provide production off-hour coverage and support periodic weekend implementations.
Training & Growth Opportunity
- Participate in IBM's z/OS Learning experience "IBM Z Global Skills Program" for Mainframe System Admin (MSA I) - a structured year-long program designed to equip junior systems programmers with the training and mentorship.
- Be committed to completing the zLEARN program and successfully passing it.
Preferred Skills
- Basic understanding of IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, and JCL.
- Eagerness to learn and build skills in areas like ZOS, CICS, OMEGAMON, and system maintenance.
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
- Exposure to mainframe system programming concepts through work, coursework, or internships.

Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering or a related field and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, complex IT infrastructure engineering; or,
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to datacenter engineering and operations, cloud engineering and operations, complex IT infrastructure engineering; or,
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
Additional Notes
The position may be eligible for Public Service Loan Forgiveness programs. Residency in New York City is not required.
