Position Overview
The Curriculum Subject Matter Expert (SME) position (Temp/Casual, 0001) is a University employee located in the Center for Advanced Studies in Child Welfare (CASCW) at the School of Social Work. This role supports the Minnesota Child Welfare Training Academy (MNCWTA) in collaboration with the Department of Children, Youth, Families (DCYF). The SME contributes expertise to curriculum development, focusing on child welfare practice, and participates in various stages of course creation.
This position is based on campus with potential for remote work following UMN policy.
Job Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the curriculum development team on content scope and sequence, ensuring alignment with training goals and competencies.
- Review and commit to project deliverables within timelines.
- Explain how contributions align with Minnesota Child Welfare Practice Competencies and learning objectives.
- Provide insights and suggestions on training scripts, activities, self-paced content, and scenarios.
- Utilize resources such as job aids to support curriculum contributions.
- Assist in developing videos, scenarios, and stories by sharing expertise.
- Offer availability for consultation during the design and development phases.
- Participate in key meetings, including kick-offs, check-ins, and reviews.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- B.S./B.A. in a related field
- At least 3 years of professional experience in child welfare or related fields, or personal experience with the child welfare system
- Experience collaborating with child welfare professionals and SMEs
- Strong communication skills
- Resourcefulness and commitment to continuous learning
- Ability to network and monitor changes in child welfare practice
- Analytical skills for fact-checking and feedback
- Effective collaboration with diverse communities
- Experience with Google documents for managing and editing content
Preferred Qualifications
- M.S.W. or related master's degree
- Extensive knowledge of Minnesota child welfare practice
- Practice experience as a child protection or welfare worker
- Experience in curriculum development

Pay and Benefits
Salary: $50/hr, dependent on experience and internal equity. Position: Part-time (25%). Retirement options available.
