Summary
We are seeking a versatile and experienced Cloud Developer with full-stack capabilities to develop a secure, scalable cloud-based application in support of Space Communications and Navigation (SCaN) at NASA HQ. The ideal candidate will have strong backend experience in Rust and Go, front-end proficiency using modern JavaScript frameworks, and hands-on expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform. Familiarity with systems engineering principles, particularly those outlined in the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook, including milestone reviews like CDR (Critical Design Review) and PDR (Preliminary Design Review), is a strong plus.
Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain AWS-native applications leveraging services such as Lambda, API Gateway, S3, DynamoDB, IAM, Kinesis, EC2, and Load-balancers.
  • Develop high-performance backend services and APIs using Rust and/or Go.
  • Build responsive, user-centric web interfaces using React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Implement and manage cloud infrastructure using Terraform and AWS CloudFormation as part of a DevSecOps pipeline.
  • Create and maintain CI/CD workflows with tools like AWS CodePipeline, GitHub Actions, or Gitlab Pipelines.
  • Apply systems engineering practices to software development, aligning with milestone reviews such as SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, ORR when applicable.
  • Ensure applications meet security, scalability, observability, and cost-efficiency goals.
  • Work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, designers, and stakeholders, to deliver full-stack solutions.
  • Operate as a self-starter in an agile environment, actively participating in scrums, independently tracking project progress, and making methodical, logical technical decisions without the need for close supervision.
  • Maintain clear technical documentation and support knowledge-sharing across the team.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in cloud-native development with 2+ years of hands-on work in AWS.
  • Strong programming skills in Rust and/or Go.
  • Front-end development experience using modern frameworks such as React.
  • Proficiency with Terraform and infrastructure automation.
  • Familiarity with serverless architecture and event-driven patterns.
  • Experience with Git, CI/CD tools, and Agile development practices.
  • Must be U.S. Citizen and be able to obtain a government issued Secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
  • AWS certifications (e.g., Developer Associate, Solutions Architect).
  • Familiarity with the NASA Systems Engineering Handbook, particularly with PDR, CDR, and lifecycle processes.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Working knowledge of authentication and authorization frameworks (e.g., Cognito, OAuth2).
  • Experience with automated testing for both backend services and UI components.
  • UI/UX design awareness and commitment to usability and accessibility standards.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and training skills.

Benefits offered may include health care, dental, vision, life insurance; 401(k); education assistance; paid time off including PTO, holidays, and any other paid leave required by law.
