Job Description
1898 & Co., a division of Burns & McDonnell, is seeking a Senior Solution Architect focused on Operational Technologies to provide utility grid modernization consulting services for electric utility clients. The selected candidate will join the Enterprise System & Integration team, which delivers high-value enterprise solutions using leading technologies. The Senior Solution Architect should possess strong electric utility business and technology acumen, providing consulting on solutions such as Advanced Distribution Management Systems (ADMS), Distributed Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS), IEC-61850 Digital Substations, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), and related networks including LAN, WAN, and FAN. Candidates must have excellent project execution, leadership, collaboration, and communication skills, with a focus on continuous improvement, enterprise innovation, and high-quality deliverables.
The role involves strategic guidance, road mapping, research, planning, and leading practices to assist executive decision-making. Responsibilities include designing and implementing technology solutions, managing project estimates and budgets, supporting project methodologies (Waterfall, Agile), ensuring quality, and fostering client relationships. The Senior Solution Architect will also develop and lead solution offerings, architecture services, and contribute to sales and marketing efforts. Mentoring less experienced staff and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards are essential parts of the role.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Business, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, with 7+ years of relevant experience (experience may substitute for degree).
- Strong skills in architecture and integration, including data, cloud, middleware, and communication architectures.
- Knowledge of current and emerging technologies in IT and OT domains.
- Experience with project execution methodologies and industry-standard tools.
- Proven ability to develop executive-level technology assessments and roadmaps.
- Preferred experience with electric utility systems such as OMS, ADMS, AMI, DERMS, IEC-61850, SCADA, and network infrastructure.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, communication, and leadership skills.
