A leading specialty insurer with global operations is looking for a dynamic Director of Engineering to lead its international engineering teams based in Boston, Atlanta, and Lisbon. This leadership role reports directly to the Head of Platform and is responsible for driving technical excellence, mentoring top-tier talent, and overseeing high-quality delivery across enterprise technology platforms.

This is an opportunity to work in a forward-thinking, DevOps-centric environment, making strategic decisions that shape core platform capabilities, including policy administration and integration infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities:

Engineering Leadership & Strategic Direction

• Define and execute the engineering vision across multiple regions and product lines.
• Champion a culture grounded in technical excellence, innovation, and accountability.
• Provide input into high-level architecture and participate in critical design reviews.

Talent Development & Team Management

• Attract, hire, and develop top engineering talent across three international hubs.
• Lead 20+ engineers, promoting scalable team models and career growth paths.
• Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and continuously improving team environment.
• Set clear performance expectations and ensure effective team delivery.

Execution & Delivery Oversight

• Own engineering KPIs around velocity, quality, and scalability.
• Establish and scale best practices for CI/CD, automation testing, and modern DevOps workflows.
• Drive secure and reliable delivery of large-scale enterprise applications.
• Evolve core technology platforms with a focus on policy and insurance-specific systems.
• Lead the integration of systems to enable seamless data flows and platform interoperability.
• Align engineering solutions with long-term architectural and business strategy.

Qualifications

• 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years in leadership roles managing distributed teams.
• Deep experience with modern CI/CD, DevOps, and agile methodologies.
• Proven track record with enterprise system integrations and policy administration in highly regulated industries (e.g., insurance or financial services).
• Experience leading teams across global time zones.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
