Scientific Software Engineer - Error Correction

QuEra Computing, Inc. is seeking a creative and collaborative Scientific Software Engineer to address software challenges in integrating high-level applications into state-of-the-art neutral-atom quantum computers. You will work with a vibrant scientific software team, industry, and academic collaborators to develop infrastructure for quantum computing, including classical compiler techniques and low-level hardware integration.

Using our open-source toolchain, Kirin, you will build QuEra’s quantum error correction stack alongside physicists, developing new embedded domain-specific languages (eDSL), compilers from logical to physical programs, and decoding infrastructure. You will co-design compilers for quantum error correction and hardware infrastructure for next-generation quantum computing using cutting-edge technologies, involving novel engineering and scientific challenges.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain eDSLs for quantum error correction programs, compilation stacks, and decoding runtime.
  • Collaborate with Quantum Error Correction (QEC) scientists to develop error correction codes, decoding algorithms, and resource estimates.
  • Work with QEC scientists and hardware teams to plan and develop hardware features for QEC algorithms.
  • Integrate gate-level and atom-move compilation with QEC experiments.

Qualifications

  • Masters in Computer Science or related field, focusing on quantum computation, quantum architecture, quantum programming languages & compilation, or quantum physics, or equivalent experience.
  • Enthusiastic about building tools for non-software developers.
  • Proficient in Python, especially type hints and design patterns.
  • Experience in high-performance computing and optimization.
  • Publication record in quantum error correction or related fields.
  • Knowledge of software development lifecycle, including version control, testing, CI/CD, logging, profiling, debugging, and documentation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Physics or Computer Science with focus on quantum topics, or equivalent experience.
  • Deep knowledge of quantum algorithms, AMO physics, and programming languages.
  • Proven software engineering experience, including open-source contributions.
  • Experience with compiled languages like C++, Rust, Julia, and optimization in these languages.

QuEra values diversity and is an equal-opportunity employer, committed to an inclusive environment free from discrimination.
