SUMMARY: The Senior Tax Accountant will be part of the VSE corporate tax team and is expected to successfully manage multiple, simultaneous assignments, deadlines, priorities, and tasks. This position is responsible for applying tax laws, regulations, and accounting principles to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely income tax provisions, tax returns, tax payments, income tax accounting entries, and ensure adherence to corporate accounting policies and internal controls. Responsibilities require strong attention to detail, tax technical analysis, communication skills, and the ability to organize and prioritize responsibilities independently.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and review consolidated federal, state, and local income tax returns, including workpapers, tax adjustment calculations, nexus and apportionment analysis, and quarterly estimates and extensions.
  • Prepare and review indirect tax returns such as sales tax, property tax, gross receipts tax, and unclaimed property.
  • Utilize OneSource Income Tax Software effectively.
  • Possess public accounting experience.
  • Assist with quarterly and annual tax provision calculations, supporting analysis, and disclosures for SEC filings.
  • Maintain and review tax-basis fixed assets.
  • Manage income and indirect tax notices, audits, and controversies.
  • Maintain the tax calendar and ensure timely filings and payments.
  • Support SOX internal controls and reporting.
  • Contribute to corporate tax initiatives.
  • Conduct in-depth tax research and support business unit accounting teams.
  • Collaborate with internal and external team members to gather necessary information for tax-related matters.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field, or an additional 3 years of relevant work experience in lieu of a degree.
  • At least 7 years of diverse tax experience in direct and indirect corporate tax areas.
  • Experience in a Big 4 or medium-sized accounting firm.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, with strong organizational, analytical, and planning skills.
  • Ability to adapt to change, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment with limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in computer applications; Thomson Reuters software experience is a plus.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong research and problem-solving skills.
  • Positive attitude and collaborative work approach across various levels.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS:

  • CPA certification.
