Deputy Chief Engineer - El Segundo, CA

As a Deputy Chief Engineer, you will play a crucial role in advancing aircraft control systems and aviation safety. Your responsibilities will include designing, developing, and optimizing fly-by-wire systems for our next-generation aircraft. You will collaborate directly with the Chief Engineer and VP of Engineering to ensure our R66 fly-by-wire system leads in innovation and safety. You will also spearhead technology modernization initiatives, working closely with leadership on strategy, execution, and achieving certification of SkyOS on our flagship R66 program.

Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including software, hardware, and program management, to support development, qualification, and certification processes.
  2. Develop and maintain the architectural vision for fly-by-wire systems, ensuring compliance with performance, safety, and reliability standards.
  3. Work with stakeholders to gather and document system requirements, translating them into technical specifications.
  4. Identify potential risks and challenges in system design, implementing mitigation strategies to ensure safety and reliability.
  5. Oversee testing and validation of fly-by-wire systems to meet regulatory standards and performance benchmarks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • Experience designing fly-by-wire flight control systems.
  • 10+ years of full-cycle engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with aviation certification requirements.
  • Experience with component-level qualification for aerospace applications.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's or PhD in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, Systems Engineering, or related fields.
  • 15+ years of full-cycle engineering experience.
  • Experience with rotorcraft design and verification.
