Role Overview

As a Principal Process Controls Engineer at Design Group, you will play a critical leadership role within our Control System Integration Practice, collaborating with industry experts to deliver innovative solutions in the food & beverage industry. You will lead complex automation projects, mentor engineers, and develop standards to enhance process automation and controls.

What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in process control systems, including FactoryTalk Batch, PlantPAx, and ISA-88 standards.
  • Lead project teams through all phases of automation projects, ensuring quality, safety, and compliance.
  • Mentor and develop engineering staff, elevating organizational expertise.
  • Support the creation of standards and best practices for process automation.
  • Engage with clients to understand needs, define requirements, and build lasting relationships.
  • Innovate by evaluating new technologies and approaches.
  • Participate in business development, proposal writing, and opportunity reviews.

What You’ll Bring

  • At least 15 years of process controls engineering experience with leadership and client-facing roles.
  • Expertise in FactoryTalk Batch, PlantPAx, and ISA-88 standards.
  • Experience with instrumentation, networking, PLC/SCADA, and system integration.
  • Proven leadership in project delivery.
  • Excellent communication skills for engaging teams and clients.
  • Experience in proposal development and project estimation.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Recognition as a technical leader or SME; participation in industry standards is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel for project needs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Chemical, or Mechanical Engineering; Master’s or PE license preferred.
