The Electrical Distribution System provides power and communication connectivity to Tesla products. The Mechanical Design Team aims to innovate in connection design, automated wiring, and manufacturing processes, addressing complex engineering challenges to enhance performance, manufacturing, automation, timing, and cost-efficiency. Our technologies often involve patents and cross-functional collaboration, supporting Tesla’s vehicle and energy products.

We seek engineers with a creative drive and strong mechanical fundamentals to oversee product design, prototyping, manufacturing, testing, and ramp-up. Recent projects include the 48V distribution system and Cybertruck connectivity.

Roles are available at multiple seniority levels, including Sr. and Staff.

Responsibilities

  • Design mechanical components for electrical connections, conductors, assembly aids, and vehicle integration.
  • Develop innovative technologies and manufacturing techniques.
  • Perform thermal and structural modeling of components and systems.
  • Build prototypes and validate functions in labs and vehicles.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and integration teams to develop systems.
  • Work with test and reliability engineers for design validation.
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and suppliers to transition designs to production.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design and manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes (injection molding, die casting, etc.).
  • Strong fundamental mechanical engineering knowledge.
  • Detail-oriented with solid documentation skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD; CATIA experience preferred.
  • Willingness to travel 10-15%.
