The University of Hawai‘i (UH) Manoa School of Nursing and Dental Hygiene (SONDH) invites qualified, dynamic, and dedicated individuals to apply for a tenure-leading, full-time, 11-month faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor under the UH Translational Health Science Simulation Center (THSSC). The UH THSSC brings real-life scenarios to the classroom to help students gain experience, confidence, and skills necessary for quality care. The position is expected to begin around June/July 2025 or as mutually agreed.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Manage the Translational Health Sciences Simulation Center (THSSC), providing leadership, administration, and operational management, including innovation, education, quality improvement, and research in healthcare simulation.
  2. Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of simulation-based education, ensuring policies, procedures, and standards align with the mission and strategic priorities of the THSSC.
  3. Engage in clinical simulation instruction for nursing and health science faculty and students; participate in curriculum development and competency assessments.
  4. Collaborate with faculty and staff to design, develop, and evaluate new courses, scenarios, and initiatives.
  5. Validate existing courses and scenarios to meet current healthcare standards and simulation best practices.
  6. Identify opportunities for technological and educational improvements, promoting evidence-based patient safety practices.
  7. Provide instruction and guidance in simulation labs and clinical simulation activities.
  8. Develop longitudinal academic assessments aligned with learning outcomes.
  9. Promote THSSC through public engagement, outreach, and online platforms.
  10. Stay current with research and technological advances in healthcare simulation, utilizing research and evaluation methods.
  11. Engage in research and scholarly activities, including presentations and publications in relevant fields.
  12. Serve on committees and participate in professional organizations to demonstrate leadership in nursing and simulation education.

Administration

  1. Oversee the Center’s finances, including budgeting and grant development.
  2. Supervise staff, manage workflow, and assess performance.
  3. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) or PhD with clinical certification from a recognized institution.
  • Current unrestricted RN license in Hawai‘i.
  • Relevant board certification, e.g., Certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CSHE).
  • At least two years of full-time experience managing a healthcare simulation program.
  • Expertise in healthcare simulation technology.
  • Proven teaching and patient care skills.
  • Understanding of student assessment, accreditation, and evaluation practices.
  • Ability to work effectively in interprofessional teams.
  • Professionalism and strong communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications

  • Progressive responsibility in healthcare settings.
  • Certified Simulation Healthcare Educator (CHSE) - Advanced.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practice.
