Our network serves over 1,400 students annually at our six campuses, located across the District, with a staff of over 250 dedicated individuals.
Center City’s Psychologist will work across all six campuses with oversight from the Student Support Services Department at Central Office (Special Education Director and Coordinators). The Psychologist will primarily be responsible for conducting formal evaluations, interpreting assessment results, and communicating results in reports and during meetings. The ideal candidate has experience working in a similar capacity in an urban setting, with the ability to connect with a variety of individuals, strong time management skills, and commitment to creating inclusive environments where all students thrive.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Identifying and evaluating referred students which requires the psychologist to:
- Gather background information
- Conduct interviews and observations
- Select test instruments valid for student and purpose of evaluation
- Administer assessments
- Present interpretation of evaluation to parent and team
- Submit typed reports (educational, cognitive, functional behavior)
- Offer relevant suggestions to student’s teaching team
- Analyzing evaluation data, student records and information pertinent to student learning, and formulating hypotheses and conclusions relating to learning and behavioral issues
- Writing Behavior Intervention Plans; collecting data for the purpose of monitoring social/emotional progress and evaluating effectiveness of services.
- Participating in eligibility meetings to interpret evaluation results; participating in MDT, IEP, and manifestation determination meetings
- Working collaboratively with stakeholders to develop plans for students facing academic and/or behavioral difficulties
- Providing technical assistance on strategies that improve outcomes for students with IEPs; supporting professional development for administrators, teachers, and dedicated aides
- Observing and providing feedback within the classroom setting to ensure IEPs and interventions are being implemented appropriately
- Supporting school counselor and Director of Family Engagement in identifying outside resources for students and families
- In rare instances, providing direct or consultative behavior support services as outlined on a student IEP or BIP; maintaining relevant records and complete progress reports
- Attending and participating in occasional school events outside of regular school hours
Job Qualifications:
- Masters degree in psychology or related field and successful completion of the period of required supervised fieldwork (See DCMR 1659.1 for additional details regarding required graduate level coursework)
- Certification as a School Psychologist by the District of Columbia Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE)
- At least 3 years experience working as a school psychologist, preferably in an urban environment
- Ability to administer and interpret cognitive, educational, behavioral, and developmental assessments
- Knowledge of developmental norms for children ages 3 to 14
- Strong organizational skills; ability to work under deadlines, meet deadlines, and balance multiple priorities
- Knowledge of the fundamentals of IDEA
- Strong communication skills, oral and written, and an ability to prepare clear and concise reports
