Qualifications


In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

For GS-07:
Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as conducting research and gathering information; writing memoranda; drafting legal documents; participating in the preparation of paperwork necessary for processing and completion of a case.

Education Substitution: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: One full year of graduate level education. OR You may substitute Superior Academic Achievement for specialized experience as follows: Successful completion of all the requirements for a bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement. In order to be creditable under this provision, Superior Academic Achievement must have been gained in a curriculum that is qualifying for the position to be filled.

For GS-09:
Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as conducting legal research; reviewing facts and evidence; drafting legal documents such as pleadings, motions, answers, or settlement documents; assisting attorneys with preparing cases for trial.

Education Substitution: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Master's or equivalent graduate degree, or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.B. or J.D. in a related field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

For GS-11:
Specialized Experience: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as independently conducting legal research; reviewing facts and evidence; drafting legal documents such as pleadings, motions, answers, stipulations of fact, or settlement documents; determining what evidence is needed for resolution of a case and recommending settlement where appropriate; assisting attorneys with preparing cases for trial.

Education Substitution: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M. in a related field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

NOTE : If qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application package.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.
