Labor And Employment Counsel

Job Overview: A prestigious law firm based in Los Angeles, CA is seeking a highly qualified Counsel to join their Labor & Employment Department. This role requires extensive experience in labor and employment law, particularly in defending single-plaintiff litigation, handling PAGA and class action matters, and providing expert employment law counseling. The ideal candidate will possess a robust academic record and the ability to independently manage cases from start to finish.

Duties:

• Defend against single-plaintiff litigation, including matters related to discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour, and reasonable accommodation.
• Handle PAGA and class action cases with a focus on providing effective legal strategies.
• Manage cases independently from inception to resolution.
• Draft, review, and respond to initial pleadings and discovery.
• Draft and argue motions, including dispositive and discovery motions.
• Take and defend depositions, including depositions of plaintiffs and corporate witnesses.
• Provide employment counseling on federal and state employment laws and regulations.
• Ideally, contribute a smaller portable book of business.

Requirements:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) required.
• Must be licensed to practice law in California.
• 9-12 years of relevant experience in labor and employment law, specifically in litigation.
• Strong research, writing, and analytical skills.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage complex cases.
• Experience with both federal and state employment laws and regulations.
• A smaller portable book of business is a plus.

Education:

• Juris Doctorate (JD) from an accredited law school.

Certifications:

• Active license to practice law in the State of California.

Skills:

• Expertise in defending employment-related lawsuits and legal claims.
• Strong motion practice, including dispositive and discovery motions.
• Skilled in deposition preparation and execution.
• High-level proficiency in legal research and writing.
• Ability to provide sound and practical employment law counseling.
• Capable of managing and prioritizing multiple complex legal cases.
