Nurse-to-patient ratios are normally 5:1 during the day and evening, and 6 or 7:1 at night. Day and evening stretch ratios are 6:1 for med/surg. Patient Care Technicians will assist with vital signs, blood glucose checks, EKGs, and activities of daily living. An in-house phlebotomy team will perform all peripheral lab draws. Nursing staff will be responsible for PICC line and central line management. First-time travelers are accepted. Weekend requirements involve working every other weekend. Travelers may be required to float within scope to meet facility needs. Block scheduling accommodations may be attempted but are not guaranteed. The following patient diagnoses are common: acute kidney injury, sepsis, COVID-19, alcohol withdrawal, altered mental status, and various infections such as gangrene, necrotizing fasciitis, osteomyelitis, and pneumonia. Special equipment utilized includes SCD pumps, Bear Hugger, wound vacs, and tube feeding pumps. Epic charting experience is preferred and required for first-time travelers. The unit includes interdisciplinary support from teams such as IV, physical therapy, respiratory services, interpretation, phlebotomy, radiology, social services, pharmacy, and unit secretaries. All travelers will be required to float as necessary. Candidates must have completed modules prior to start, which will be recorded via facility report.
