About ALSO
We're ALSO, an electric mobility company originally conceived as part of Rivian. Our mission is to inspire everyone to ride ALSO-replacing car, truck, and SUV trips with small, efficient, and joyful EVs that are 10-50x more energy efficient.
We're a team of builders, dreamers, and innovators creating vertically integrated light electric vehicles designed to meet the global mobility challenges of today and tomorrow. Based in Silicon Valley, we've assembled leaders from technology, automotive, cycling, outdoor recreation, and retail to create a new category of electric vehicles.
The Role
We are seeking a Sr Staff Power Electronics Engineer to lead the development of power conversion systems for multiple micro-mobility platforms. This role is highly technical and hands-on, spanning design, validation, and production ramp of next-generation power electronics. You'll drive system-level decisions, collaborate across engineering disciplines, and ensure robust, efficient solutions for small EV platforms.
What You'll Do
  • Serve as Directly Responsible Individual (DRI) for execution of power conversion PCBA development through design, validation, and production.
  • Design highly integrated, cost-effective systems across the 48-100V, 1-10kW peak power range.
  • Plan development schedules, test resources, and contract manufacturer activities.
  • Define and ratify product requirements, balancing cost, performance, reliability, and regulatory standards.
  • Perform simulations, analyses, and validation of critical circuits, including worst-case analysis.
  • Select, characterize, and integrate key components; perform schematic capture and layout.
  • Collaborate with firmware and controls engineers on system integration and control strategies.
  • Partner with functional safety engineers to design diagnostics and protection circuits.
  • Compile DFMEA, PFMEA, and validation plans.
  • Lead integration and testing activities, including coordination with certification labs and contract manufacturers.
  • Support thermal, EMC, reliability, and NVH testing.
  • Provide regular updates to program leadership and cross-functional teams.
What You'll Bring
  • MS in Electrical Engineering with focus on power electronics/power systems (PhD preferred).
  • 8+ years of experience in power electronics design, ideally traction inverters.
  • Expertise with actuators (BLDC) and position sensors.
  • Proficiency with modern power switches (MOSFET, GaN, SiC).
  • Strong understanding of analog/digital circuits, microcontrollers, and peripherals in power applications.
  • Skilled in simulation tools: LTspice, PLECS, MATLAB.
  • Hands-on lab experience with high-voltage systems (up to 1kV).
  • Track record of delivering power electronics products to market.
Why ALSO
At ALSO, you'll be part of a world-class team creating an entirely new mobility solution. Our vehicles are efficient, affordable, and delightful to ride-transforming how people move every day.
Perks and Benefits
  • $220,000 - $255,000 salary, based on experience
  • Excellent health, dental, and vision insurance (up to 100% employer-covered)
  • One Medical membership and dedicated insurance advocates
  • Fertility and family-building benefits with Progyny
  • Flexible time off policy
  • 401(k) match
