The Department of Transportation is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented
Database Administrator (DBA)
to support mission-critical systems in an AWS cloud environment. The DBA will be responsible for ensuring the security, performance, reliability, and compliance of enterprise databases, while working closely with application development teams and other stakeholders. This role requires strong technical expertise, familiarity with federal security standards, and the ability to operate effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, configure, and maintain major database platforms including
SQL Server
and
PostgreSQL
in an AWS cloud environment. Optimize database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and resource allocation. Implement and manage
backup and recovery procedures , high availability (HA) solutions, and disaster recovery (DR) plans. Utilize monitoring tools to assess database performance, identify issues, and apply proactive solutions. Manage scheduling and automation of database jobs to support operational efficiency. Ensure compliance with
database security principles , encryption standards, and access control frameworks. Maintain adherence to
FISMA compliance requirements
and federal security standards. Conduct vulnerability assessments, apply remediation strategies, and maintain audit-ready documentation. Support
application development teams
by providing database expertise, troubleshooting issues, and facilitating integration. Document database changes, processes, and procedures in alignment with established
change management protocols . Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to support incident response and resolution of critical issues. Requirements
3-5+ years
of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator with SQL Server and PostgreSQL. Experience in
AWS cloud database environments . Strong proficiency in
SQL
with demonstrated expertise in database tuning and optimization. Hands-on experience with HA/DR solutions and backup/recovery best practices. Familiarity with database monitoring tools and job scheduling utilities. Knowledge of
federal security standards
including FISMA, and experience with compliance audits. Experience using vulnerability assessment tools and implementing remediation. Strong background in change management, documentation standards, and incident response. Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.

100,000 - 120,000
