Assistant Mill Chemist

Pratt Paper (KY), LLC has a need for an Assistant Mill Chemist at its Henderson, KY location. Pratt Industries is building a twin headbox 1200 TPD paper machine for making linerboard and corrugating medium. The Assistant Mill Chemist works alongside the Mill Chemist and production team in order to maximize safety, quality and production. The Assistant Mill Chemist will help oversee the management of all chemical systems. Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

(Other duties may be assigned) The Assistant Mill Chemist's primary responsibilities as part of the startup team include, but are not limited to: Planning, designing, and ordering the proper chemical and starch delivery systems Ensuring the proper installation of the above chemical and starch delivery systems Commissioning the above systems Participating in all chemical supplier negotiations, including the final determination of programs and suppliers After startup, the Assistant Mill Chemist's primary responsibilities as part of the mill operational team include, but are not limited to: Maintaining safety standards in the chemical areas Maintaining chemical inventories Maintaining chemical delivery systems Determining, reporting and optimizing chemical costs Evaluating trials Training operators on chemical and general technical concepts Monitoring, maintaining and reporting Air and Water Permitting Education and/or Experience: The educational requirements are four (4) year Bachelor of Science in Pulp and Paper Science, Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering, or a related field. The experience requirements are 3-5 years of Paper Mill Chemical experience or Chemical Technical Service. Paper Mill experience is preferred. Language Skills: The candidate must speak and write English at a college level. Mathematical Skills: The candidate must be able to solve college level mathematical equations. The candidate must be able to use college level algebra, geometry and calculus to solve problems in the mill. Reasoning Ability: The candidate must be able to use knowledge of papermaking and papermaking chemistry to solve process, equipment and quality problems. Technical Skills: Chemistry Papermaking Papermaking Chemistry Microsoft Office Products Computer Literacy Troubleshooting Process Engineering Mechanical aptitude Electrical aptitude Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: B.S. Pulp and Paper Science B.S. Chemical Engineering Physical Demands: Employee is regularly required to walk, talk, and hear Employee is frequently required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, feel; reach with hands and arms The employee is occasionally required to sit The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds Vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus Work Environment: 65% of all work will be on the production floor in a hot environment. As this is a production environment with multiple motors this will be a high noise environment. Hearing protection is required. Performance Measurements: Employee will be measured on the performance goals listed above.
