The department offers nine graduate programs, including three doctoral programs (Counseling Psychology, Counselor Education and Practice, and School Psychology) and three CACREP master’s programs (Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Clinical Rehabilitation Counseling, and School Counseling). It also offers Ed.S. degrees in School Counseling and School Psychology. Our mission is to advance counseling and psychology by promoting rigorous research, applying evidence-based treatments, and advocating for effective social policies. We aim to prepare distinguished professionals who use empirically validated methods to support community well-being. Through scholarship and advocacy, we seek to achieve prominent prevention, intervention, and treatment outcomes for all individuals. The Chair reports to the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development and is responsible for various administrative tasks, including: Managing and allocating the department’s budget, faculty and staff recruitment and evaluation, and ensuring compliance with university policies; Ensuring programs maintain APA and CACREP accreditation; Supporting faculty in scholarly and creative work, and in professional development; Managing the growth of external funding; Overseeing instruction quality, credit hour production, and teaching assignments; Fostering an inclusive learning environment for students’ academic and professional growth; Collaborating effectively with faculty, staff, and other departments within the college and university. https://facultycareers.gsu.edu/postings/5899 Minimum requirements include: At least 10 years of experience in a tenure-track faculty position, with current rank of tenured associate or full professor; University/college service and leadership experience; Experience managing budgets and financial resources; Doctoral degree in counseling psychology, counselor education, or school psychology from an accredited program; Effective personnel management skills; Excellent written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences; Familiarity with curriculum development and program assessment.
