The LA SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking applicants for
GENERAL COUNSEL Position # 506404509 To be filled immediately The General Counsel serves as the chief legal advisor to the Superintendent, providing consultation and direction on legal matters with other leadership personnel at the Special School District (SSD). This position directs legal activities to ensure all schools within the district comply with statutes, policies, rules, and regulations in the education arena. It supervises the Executive Counsel, assigning roles, responsibilities, and functions for legal services at SSD. Juris Doctorate from an ABA-accredited law school Three years of legal experience Member of Louisiana State Bar, or in good standing of another state or District of Columbia Bar
Desired qualifications: Experience representing public agencies or educational institutions Experience with leases, contracts, and public/private transactions
Responsibilities include: Representing SSD and Superintendent in complex litigation before trial and appellate courts and administrative tribunals. Advising on education-related matters involving students and staff. Providing training on policies, legal requirements, and relevant topics. Advising SSD leadership on legal implications of policies and actions, especially related to students. Preparing for administrative hearings involving senior administrators or committees. Assisting with internal investigations as needed. Supporting the Title IX Coordinator. Responding to public records requests. Performing other duties as assigned.
