Job Description & Requirements * Specialty: Preoperative * Discipline: RN * Start Date: ASAP * Duration: 13 weeks * 40 hours per week * Shift: 8 hours, days * Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse - Pre Op - Job Summary: Provides safe, quality patient care in the Peri-Operative area (Pre-op, Intra-op and Recovery). Accountable for the assessing, planning, implementing, and coordinating patient care from admission to discharge. Principal Responsibilities: 1. Will participate and maintain a culture within facility that is consistent with the content outlined in the Service and Behavioral Standards document. To this end, employee will be expected to read, have familiarity, and embrace the principles contained within. 2. Assesses patient status on admission to the preop area and/or the post-op area, and on a continuing basis. 3. Provides safe, therapeutic quality care to patients by utilizing the nursing process and nursing diagnosis in a timely manner and by setting appropriate priorities. Coordinates nursing interventions to enhance achievement of expected outcomes and to ensure readiness for discharge. Documents interventions and patient s responses. 4. Ensures provision of patient care in an organized and timely manner. 5. Utilizes nursing care standards when planning and implementing patient care. 6. Communicates appropriate information regarding patient conditions to those who require the information including, surgeons, anesthesia, management, and other staff. 7. Safely carries out physician s orders correctly and promptly, documenting all activities. 8. Initiates and participates in patient and family education. Assesses learning needs according to patient s level of understanding and readiness to learn. 9. Displays an understanding of each patient s cognitive, physical, emotional, and chronological maturity in assessments, treatment, and care. 10. Participate in the orientation and training of new employees. 11. Takes part in pre- and post-op phone calls and communicates any problems to the appropriate person. 12. Maintains competencies to function in RN role within specific area. 13. Maintains competencies in conscious sedation administration and monitoring of sedated patient. Including airway protection, assessment, and support of sedated patients. 14. Protect sedated and anesthetized patients by identifying safety hazards such as electrical, equipment, pressure points and by minimizing exposure to maintain privacy and body temperature. 15. Expertise in safety principles, asepsis, sterile technique, and universal precautions. 16. Assesses, anticipates, and implements appropriate care throughout the surgical process. 17. Opens, cleans, and re-stocks unit for the day. 18. Other duties as assigned. Education, Licensure and Experience: 1. Graduate of an accredited school of registered nursing. 2. Current unencumbered State of Oregon license as a Registered Nurse. 3. Current CPR certification, ACLS or ability to obtain ACLS within six (6) months of hire date. 4. Minimum of three (3) to five (5) years experience with at least two (2) years experience in critical care, PACU or Medical Surgical Nursing preferred. 5. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to complete BLS certification within 90 days of hire required. 6. PALS certification, preferred. Knowledge and Skills: 1. Ability to manage emergency situations in a calm and confident manner. 2. Demonstrated flexibility and leadership with unscheduled procedure changes. 3. Organize, prioritize, delegate, and assign duties to non-licensed personnel. 4. Maintain skills in equipment usage and troubleshooting. 5. Complete knowledge and understanding of peri-operative nursing care in the freestanding ambulatory surgery center. 6. Evidence of working knowledge of the nursing process. 7. Knowledge of basic clinical skills to provide patient care. 8. Ability to work well with providers, clinical staff, and patients. 9. Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously in a busy, fast-paced environment while maintaining quality of work. 10. Adhere to all policies and procedures, including but not limited to standards for confidentiality, Infection Control, Safety (OSHA), Attendance, Personal Electronic Equipment, Punctuality and Personal Appearance. 11.
